WORK IN PROGRESS
IN THE MONTH OF JULY 2003
Work performed during June in the five environments into which the work site
is divided in order that they may progress simultaneously, was as follows:
Sale Apollinee: The restoration
and integration of the stonework and the completion of the ceiling
and wall decorations has almost been terminated and the scaffolding on
the ground floor has now been dismantled. The cleaning of the stonework
portion of the outer façade in Campo San Fantin currently
nears completion, as the upper part of the outside scaffolding and that
in Calle della Fenice has been taken down. Restoration is currently in
progress on the outer gates.
Theatrical Cavea: The Istrian stone flooring of the
corridor under the stalls is currently being laid, and the walls and ceilings
of the wooden boxes
including the Venetian-style
flooring are almost finished. The squaring of all the doorways
to the various floors and the restoration of the monumental staircase
on the south side are currently being terminated. Installation
work proceeds hand-in-hand with work on the boxes, whilst
the tubes connecting the machines of the air-conditioning system are being
installed in the engine room over the ceiling. Maestro
Mattei has commenced the painting on the parapets
of the gallery and the circle. The connection of the air treatment machinery
positioned in the attic is almost finished and the topcoat is being applied
to the roof tiles.
Stage: the insulation and waterproofing work on the
roof is almost complete, and the assembly of the scenery
machinery is under way in the lower part. Internal and external
plastering work is in progress.
Northern Wing (changing rooms and conveniences): the
completion of the roof
of the “great chorus” room is now under way and the wooden trusses have
already been assembled. The inside dividing walls and relative plasterwork
is currently being completed. Work on the electrical
and mechanical systems is being completed.
Southern Wing (offices and
the “Rossi” room): The ceilings are currently being completed in the 12.00/12.80
offices. The dividing walls on the ground floor are being built and the
underground fire prevention system’s pump unit is being completed. Manpower
employed: current records show an average daily presence of some 300 labourers,
with a partial use of double shifts.
